Groups
In PeerCards you work in a group. Each group belongs to a single assignment: for every assignment you form a group in its lobby. A group has 2 to 3 students.
Reach the lobby
You land there right after subscribing to the assignment, or from the dashboard with Join a group. See Getting started.
The lobby refreshes by itself every few seconds: you see classmates join, leave and confirm without reloading the page.
Groups formed by the teacher
In some assignments the teacher forms the groups. In that case the lobby shows Waiting for the teacher: you have nothing to do. When the teacher starts the activity, the page takes you to the question list.
Find a teammate
If you have no group yet, the lobby shows You are not in a group yet and the Find a teammate box.
- Type at least 2 characters: a classmate's name or a group name.
- The results list every matching classmate, with their group and teammates, or no group yet.
- Click: - Team up if the classmate has no group: a group with the two of you is created; - Join if the classmate already has a group with a free seat: you join their group.
Instead of the button you may see a label:
- group is full: it already has 3 members;
- group already started: it accepts no more members;
- already in your group.
Only students subscribed to this assignment are listed. If the classmate you are looking for is missing, ask them to subscribe first.
The search box is visible only while you have no group.
Manage your group
When you are in a group, the lobby shows Your group: with the group name, the member count (e.g. 2/3 members) and the member list. Next to each name you see whether they have confirmed (✔) or not (⌛).
Until the group starts, every member can:
- Rename the group: type the name you want and click Save. Only letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores are allowed.
- Remove another member: asks for confirmation.
- Leave the group, the red button at the bottom: asks for confirmation.
To add a third member, that student has to search for one of you and click Join.
Confirm the group
The group starts only when every member has confirmed the same composition.
- Wait until all your teammates are in the group. With a single member the lobby shows Find at least one more teammate: groups have 2 to 3 members.
- Click the Confirm the group: button followed by the member names (e.g. Confirm the group: Anna Rossi, Luca Bianchi). Check the names: you confirm exactly that composition.
- After confirming you see You confirmed this group. and, under Waiting for:, who still has to confirm.
- If you change your mind, click Withdraw confirmation.
Any change of members (someone joins, leaves or is removed) resets all confirmations: everyone has to confirm again.
When the last member confirms, the group starts and everyone is taken to the question list. See Answering.
After the start
From then on the group is locked: you cannot rename it, leave it or change its members, nor cancel your subscription to the assignment. Only the teacher can change it.
The AI peer
In some assignments an AI peer answers alongside your classmates. It is not a group member and does not appear in the lobby: it shows up only on each question page, next to the group's answers.
Cancel your subscription
Until the group starts you can leave the assignment with Cancel assignment subscription at the bottom of the lobby, or with Un-sign on the dashboard. If you were in a group, you leave it.
